Sari-wearing violinist

Yes, not only that..she is also a ghost!

Before you get freaked out, I am referring to a drama serial–not  an actual experience. ’The Ghost’ stars Sania Saeed as the ghost draped in warm red sarees, and is directed by Baber Jawed. It airs on Sundays in the evenings.

No NEWS …..is really a good news!

Our new found abundance of news channels  is  making us more aware of our surrounding than ever before.

As  we are getting satisfaction that , first time after sixty years  important  people are being questioned on live TV. Even  when we know at the end they  will make all investigations  and questions go hush hush  , it still  gives a commoner some sense of  control.

At the same time too many News Channels are kind of over emphasising every thing, and making a NEWS when there is not any.

Lets try to be more creative , ” makhi per makhi marna ” is not good  idea in a long run.

Try more productive side of media about problem solving not only talking about it.

In a country like ours having a  platform is a big opportunity, but at the same time  it  is a bigger responsibility  as well.

Sonia Rehman… new favourite for our tv producers

We  don’t have anything against her , but dont understand why she kept getting cast as a  beautiful damsel, while damsels are playing side roles… are they consciously trying to give our all middle aged, little overweight ladies some hope?

While acting is not her  forte ,  as an anchor she is good.

Love interest for romantic hero… spare us please! We need new faces  on our tv screens.

Gaza:wearing the black & white kaffiyeh

Political or Fashion statement?

Political or Fashion statement?

Last I checked the Palestinian kaffiyeh represented the Palestine’s struggle for freedom.

However, recently I have seen the scarf knotted over  more and more slim, seductive shoulders in music videos, and fashion shows. I guess like the (in)famous Che image plastered all over t-shirts in the West, only the wearer can tell if they are sporting a political or style statement.

If you are interested in reading up on the topic, here are some posts that I found useful:

>>An excellent post on the historical significance of the Kaffiyeh in a Palestinian context.

>>An article on the sudden popularity of the black and white scarf in towns like Toronto.

>Swedenburg on Celebrities like Cameron Diaz sighted wearing the kaffiyeh

>Article on the scarf becoming ‘hip-hop chic’ in and around New York

>Article on the meaning of the Kaffiyeh, plus the 2008 Dunkin Donuts ad controversy

Khay for Khabardar!

Khabardar  is a new tv show I caught the other day.
It is an absolutely hilarious take on the budding news media industry in Pakistan–complete with the air-headed anchors and nerdy copy-editors :P
